From Pink Spaceships to Silver Boots: How Barbarella Became My New Obsession

From Pink Spaceships to Silver Boots: How Barbarella Became My New Obsession

So, I was browsing my Firestick looking for the movie Anora (which, to my disappointment, isn’t streaming out yet 😩), so I decided to explore the “similar movies” section. That’s when I stumbled across...Barbarella starring Jane Fonda—and O-M-G, how have I just discovered this iconic, fashionable masterpiece?!

From the very first scene, I was hooked. Jane Fonda was absolutely that girl! And can we take a moment to appreciate the fits? Once you move past the “comedic” retro graphics, you’ll notice the sheer artistry in the film’s visuals. The color combinations are stunning: from earthy red tones of Jane Fonda’s hair paired with the furry, textured backgrounds, all contrasted with pops of metallic silver that run throughout the film.

My personal favorite? The pink spaceship scene where Jane slowly sticks out her leg, rocking a sheer black mesh and shiny silver bodysuit with heels. Absolutely iconic!

But the fashion doesn’t stop there—every outfit change is a visual treat. From the high-collared fur dress with a dramatic tail to the consistently edgy silver accessories, every look is a testament to the bold and playful style of the era.

There’s definitely a sensual, cheeky vibe to the movie that gives a hint of Austin Powers camp, but Barbarella still feels timeless in its unapologetic confidence and futuristic aesthetic.

If you’re a lover of vintage fashion (like me), this is a must-watch. The style inspiration is endless, and it reminds me why I adore exploring fashion from past decades.
